This morning as I was leaving Huntley, I heard a strange new sound -- an
"ack, ack, ack," like an old bicycle horn, so I turned toward the noise
and saw a dark, crow-sized bird with a long torso and tail fly from the
marsh into the woods and continue on out of sight as it kept making that
weird sound.

What could it be?  Green heron?  Nope, not chunky enough and the call
wasn't hoarse enough.  Fish crow?  No, totally not that kind of sound.

After discussing the possibilities with Gene Keefe and Carolyn Gamble
whom I met along the path, we saw Mike (Mot Mot) Ready up ahead looking
intently at something.  He said, "Look at this Cooper's Hawk; it's
sitting  out in the open over there!"  We did, and it flew off going,
"ack, ack, ack"!!  Mystery solved!  None of us ever knew they could do
that!

So there is your raptor factoid of the day.
