Today, between 12 and about 1:30 pm there was a Wilson's Phalarope at the
right end of the mudflat at Hunting Creek. The bird is very pale, in winter
plummage, and was often doing the "Wilson's whirling 360" spinning to stir
up some food.
Lots of sandpipers are in, including Spotted, Least, Semipalm, Pectoral,
both Yellowlegs, Western, White-rumped, SB Dowitcher, and Killdeer and
Semipalmated Plovers.
Shortly after 8 AM this morning at Cameron Run I was told by another birder
that he had just seen a Wilson's Phalarope a little further
up the creek from where I was standing. This birder and his friend, Sue Heath,
my husband Jack, and I tried to relocate the bird without
success. Normally, I would not post about a bird I had not seen myself, but
after reading Bob's report, I feel it is very likely that
the phalarope visited Cameron Run this morning too.
All the species Bob mentions were also at Cameron Run, with the exception of
Spotted and Western Sandpipers. At least, I didn't spot
either of them. We had fabulous views of White-rumps. There were also Great
Egrets, Snowy Egrets, and one immature Little Blue Heron.
Nice going, Bob!
