Had another hawk visit today. Unfortunately, the hawk did not provide me with
a good photo op, so
there won't be an identification exercise for this one.
It was not the Immature Cooper's that came to my bird bath last week.
It is interesting how helpful that exercise was for me in helping me quickly
scan this bird for
field marks.
This bird was clearly smaller than the Cooper's. The head was rounded, not
square. The eye was
larger and not set forward on the face. The end of the tail was visible this
time and was square at
the tip, not rounded. This was also an immature and had streaking on the body,
but it was larger
spots and they extended all the way down the body.
So it looks like I had a visit from an Immature Sharp-shinned today.
My wife and I participate in Project Feederwatch and our count days are every
Saturday and Sunday.
There had been almost no birds at our feeders today. Guess we now know why.
The hawk has probably
been out hiding in the trees all morning.
