Total observation time: 3.83 hours
Official Counter: Gordy Adamski
Observers: Brenda Tekin
Weather:
Another split coverage - 1-3:15 p.m. EST and 5-7 p.m.
Very light NW breeze;
Temp: 30.5C
Humidity: 58% > 62%
Bar.Pressure: 1015
Cloud Cover: party cloudy increasing to overcast
Visibility: 10km due to very thick haze
By 7 p.m. another developing storm along the western side of ridge and
unstable air mass from southern end met overhead, forming one doozy of a
storm that streamrolled over Albemarle County from Charlottesville to
southern end of the county. The county fair suffered heavy damage with
very high winds which toppled and destroyed an $80,000 tent, injuring
several individuals huddled inside out of the rain and shutting down the
fair on Friday. The sky was lit up all around with a second night of
intense lightening and thunder that rattled the very foundation of our
home. Some scary stuff!
Observations:
Two adult Bald Eagles within 14 minutes of each other - 2:14 and 2:28 p.m.
EST
Best bird was an adult Mississippi Kite observed by Gordy Adamski. It was
on the western side of the ridge heading SW a 2:08 EST. This could quite
possibly be same adult MIKI observed one week ago at exit 94 on I-81
approximately 4 miles west of site.
Ruby-throated Hummingbird: 3 (1 adult male, 1 imm. male, 1un)
Common Nighthawk - 9
European Starling - one massive flight of 1,000 heading west through gap
over Waynesboro. The sky was literally a huge black cloud of starlings!
