Observations:
Bulk of BWs (496) were discovered LOW well off to NW crossing over valley
heading SW. Very hard to see through thick upper haze that has persisted
for days, if not weeks. Even the Ospreywere low flying throughout the day
and most often birds were seen flapping instead of sailing through.
Three Bald Eagles: 2 adults, 1-4th year;
Cedar Waxwing
Blue Jay - increasing numbers
Chimney Swift
Northern Flicker - 1 heading south
Common Yellowthroat - 1 female
Common Nighthawk - 1 at 4:41 p.m.
Monarch Butterfly - 24

The Rockfish Gap Hawk Watch is held on the grounds of the Inn at Afton, located
on the southern side of Rockfish Gap in the Blue Ridge Mountains, just above
where I-64 (exit 99) intersects with the southern end of the Skyline Drive and
the northern end of the Blue Ridge Parkway, just east of Waynesboro, VA and
approximately 22 miles west of Charlottesville, VA.
