VA Birders,
At 10:30 this morning I was walking downstream from
the Visitors Center at Riverbend Park. I saw a large
Grebe with a long, yellowish bill fishing near the
trail. It had a long neck. The colors were dark on
the back and head, lighter on the neck with a hint of
rust along part of the neck. When the bird was
resting, the feathers on top of the head stuck up a
bit and the back of the head looked bumpy. I believe
the bird was a RED-NECKED GREBE.
