Hi,
I happened to go to Upper Occoquan Service Authority (UOSA) around 3 pm today
with my family and immediately noticed:
- abnormally large number of Canada goose- one completely new goose for this
pond
In the past I have documented a hybrid goose in this pond and so my initial
thoughts after spotting it with my bare eyes, was that the hybrid must be back.
Luckily I had a pair of binoculars in my car and I used them to see this goose.
Here is what I saw distinctly
- overall gray bird
- white around the bill- pink bill and pink feet- three incomplete black belly
bands
The backside of this duck was not distinctly large as the last time in the case
of the Canda Goose x Domestic Goose hybrid --

For some reason the Canada geese today were easily spooked and so very quickly
they took to water along with this goose. After observing it and comparing
against a bird book I rushed home to get a camera. By the time i got back with
the camera, the bird was gone.
Since tomorrow is the Manassas Bull Run CBC, there is a high chance of
re-discovery of this bird.
