Following is the count from Sunday's weekly bird walk at Great Falls
National Park, which identified approximately approximately 20 species and
included 2 participants. Fewer species were observed than usual, likely in
part because the walk was shortened due to the cold. With the possible
exception of ducks, birds did, however, appear to be in abundance, foraging on
the ground, and disappearing into and emerging from myriad tree cavities.
The walk meets at 8:00 a.m. on Sunday mornings, rain or shine, in front of the
snack bar/concession stand of the Great Falls Park visitors' center; it does
not take place, though, during electrical storms, heavy snows, or when the
trails are icy. All birders are welcome!
