This mourning, I digiscoped a GCFC carrying nesting material (dead
pine needles) into a tree cavity at a neighborhood park in
Alexandria, VA. Click into the link below to see this bird exiting
the cavity. While nesting material was being gathered and carried to
the cavity, this bird's mate was at hand performing silent escort
duty to and from the cavity. I watched a couple of CO-CN carries
before I set up to digiscope the GCFC exiting the cavity. Digiscope
was obtained with a 21X fixed eyepiece at distance. Before leaving
the park for the mourning, I heard the male singing on territory.
This digiscope will be removed from its download server sometime
tomorrow.
Local birders working on the Dyke Marsh breeding bird survey should
know that this bird was digiscoped at another Alexandria venue
altogether.
