For those of you who have been wondering, or have been asked by others,
why some Canada geese pairs have gobs of goslings of varying sizes while
others only have a couple, we discovered the answer the other evening at
Dyke Marsh. As my husband and I watched, two couples, one with a dozen
tiny goslings and one with only four larger offspring, swam past each
other. Then, after they had cleared each other, suddenly two of the
larger goslings left their family and joined up with the larger group.
The strange thing we thought was that none of the parents seemed to
notice. I wonder if the kiddos prefer the larger groups as they feel
safer there. ... Anyway, now you know the REST of the story.
