At home here in Vienna on Saturday afternoon (in between soccer games) I had
a Cape-May, Redstart, Ovenbird and a Common Yellowthroat, all very nice for
yard birds. The Redstart was bathing in the bird creek and the Cape-May &
Yellowthroat spent a lot of time in the butterfly bushes. I will have to
plant some more of those!
In Gore, VA on Saturday evening I heard two Whip-poor-wills singing to each
other. This was a pleasant surprise (for me) to hear them so late in the
season. The first bird just called "whip, whip, whip-poor," and the second
replied with a full "whip-poor-will." This morning in Gore there was a
Great-horned Owl or two hooting in the distance at sun-up and later in the
morning a singing Yellow-rumped came thru the yard with a flock of Carolina
Chickadees and White-breasted Nuthatches.
Good birding!
