I spent a brief but productive hour this morning (Monday 09 October) at
Algonkian Regional Park, alongside the Potomac. Foggy from 7:10 to
7:45-ish, then that fantastic sun broke through.
The tall, mixed deciduous grove around the parking lot was full of
birds. My favorite was a chance to see both Kinglet varieties in the
same general area.
Towards 8:30, a big flock of Starlings arrived. Birding by eye and ear
was instantly reduced to birding by eye alone - and most of the motion I
was seeing was caused by moving Starlings. So I left.
Here's my list.
Canada Goose
Downy Woodpecker
Eastern Wood Pewee
Eastern Kingbird
Red-Eyed Vireo
American Crow
Fish Crow
Tufted Titmouse
Carolina Chickadee
Carolina Wren
Golden-Crowned Kinglet
Ruby-Crowned Kinglet
American Robin
Northern Mockingbird
European Nasty Starling
Northern Parula
Yellow-Rumped Warbler
at least one other warbler sp.
Northern Cardinal
