Hi, Daniel. Here is my posting to the Maryland
listserv about this weekend's trip. I found Henslow's
Sparrow but not at the locations that you mentioned.
I found 4 of them on Pea Ridge Road. There were other
sparrows, as well as Bobolinks there, too. A
Grasshopper Sparrow sang in the road, which I thought
was weird. He would crouch down and hop around. Then
he'd get partially upright and sing. Then he'd go
back to crouching again, as if he was hiding and
moving in tall grass.
I guess I went to the wrong location along Old
Legislative Road? There was a parking lot for some
sort of Allegany County building across from a small
field but there were no Henslow's there. When I drove
further south, I came to a village and then turned
around. I saw no other parking areas on this road. I
went to Burning Mines road, which was a good spot but
heard or saw no Henslow's there.
Anyway, thanks again for your help.
Here is the forwarded trip report with some
highlights.
Scott
