For those interested, in review of my records I noticed that I neglected to
include the adult female NOTHERN HARRIER observed at Occoquan Bay NWR
yesterday. I believe I remember seeing a juvenile bird there in January, but I
probably only see Harriers at this location one out of every three or four
times I visit the refuge.

VA-Birders,
I birded a few spots in PW Co today until just before noon when the wind
picked up and I got bored and went home. Locations visited (in order): Possum
Point, Julie Metz Wetlands, Veteran's Park, Belmont Bay, Occoquan Bay NWR.
Highlights mentioned first, then complete lists below. 69 species for the
morning. Most target birds missed and perhaps not in yet.
Highlights:
POSSUM POINT (7:00 AM - 8:00 AM, 53 spp):
One lone TUNDRA SWAN left as far as I could see. Ospreys on nest. 4 WILSON'S
SNIPE at second pull-off on the right. 2 SAVANNAH SPARROWS and a KESTREL at
the open hillside area on the left as you drive in.
JULIE METZ WETLANDS (8:15 AM - 9:15 AM, 41 spp):
2 WILSON'S SNIPE heard chattering from the marsh. 1 TREE SWALLOW male in the
air. 1 RUBY-CROWNED KINGLET, and a foraging BROWN THRASHER near the parking
lot.
OCCOQUAN BAY NWR (10:30 AM - 11:30 AM, 51 spp):
One NORTHERN BOBWHITE calling north of the bridge area along Charlie Rd.
HORNED GREBE seen on the river at end of Easy Rd. DC CORMORANT fly-by at this
same spot. One BALD EAGLE adult near nest, another juvenile (2nd year) bird
flying over parking lot. 3 KING RAILS heard (2 close to river in marsh along
Easy Rd, 1 at Charlie Rd bridge). Five TREE SWALLOWS (2 males, 3 females),
some of which are sitting atop bluebird boxes. One EASTERN MEADOWLARK (not in
its usual spot).
