Howdy all,
Yesterday was a bit rainy at "daybreak" but soon quite and we were able to
open by 615am. It was a bit slow. We only banded 19 birds. We did have lots of
YELLOW-BILLED CUCKOOS around and heard our first ORCHARD ORIOLE. EASTERN
WOOD-PEWEES have showed up in better numbers here and a few more SWAINSON'S
THRUSHES
came in. A SPOTTED SANDPIPER and a few distant peeps were seen as well.
Midway through the morning we had an adult PEREGRINE FALCON land in a large
pine
near the banding station. Sat there all cozy-like for about 20 minutes.
Today was a bit better. The wind was a problem all morning but we were able
to run a good number of nets. Good thing too, there were birds around. We ended
the day banding 54 birds of 16 species. Lots of BLACK-THROATED BLUE WARBLERS
and COMMON YELLOWTHROATS were around today. We banded yet another super
beautiful male CHESTNUT-SIDED WARBLER this morning. I ended the day with one of
my
favorite birds, a BLUE JAY.
