Howdy all,
Another beautiful day at First Landing this morning and the birds didn't
disappoint either. Although I didn't catch a lot of birds, I still managed to
catch 17 species. Not bad when you consider I only caught a total of 25 birds.
Had
a total of seven warbler species.
New birds for the year at the station include NORTHERN WATERTHRUSH, RED-EYED
VIREO, and OVENBIRD. Although I didn'tcatch any Red-eyeds there were a few
around.
Here's the list:
Northern Parula 2
Prairie Warbler 1
Prothonotary Warbler 2
Yellow Palm Warbler 2
Black-and-white Warbler 1
Northern Waterthrush 2
Ovenbird 1
Ruby-crowned Kinglet 2
American Goldfinch 1
White-eyed Vireo 1
Swamp Sparrow 1
White-throated Sparrow 1
Hermit Thrush 1
Eastern Towhee 3
Total Banded ------- 21
Also caught four recaptures made up of a Carolina Chickadee, Tufted Titmouse,
Downy Woodpecker, and Northern Parula.
I sure like these calm wind days. I hope there is a lot more of these days in
the future!
As been the case all season, almost all of the birds have been caught before
10am. For some reason, they just disappear around that time. And as always,
everyone is welcome to come to the banding station! Just remember earlier the
better, the less wind there is the better the chances we might actually catch
something, and rain is bad. The station is located at the intersection of Long
Creek trail and White Hill Lake trail. It's not hard to miss, usually I am
standing there staring at the moss.
Cheers,
Jethro Runco
