Howdy all,
Another day, and still more wind. We ended up banding only nine birds today.
So we had a "little" (ha) spare time today. The NORTHERN PARULAS and BLUE-GRAY
GNATCATCHERS are still putting on a show. Still lots of Gnatcatchers around.
We did find two SNOWY EGRETS near the banding station around noon. First we
have seen there. Also had a small group (5-6) NORTHERN ROUGH-WINGED SWALLOWS
around for the first time this season as well. Still looking/waiting for Purple
Martins and Green Herons. We did find a PRAIRIE WARBLER on our walk out. This
bird was about half way down Fox Run Trail. A very studly male!
Tomorrow looks to be a bit calmer, at least I hope so. We'll see if that
translates into any more birds or not.
Here are the totals for 4/5:
Blue-gray Gnatcatcher 3
Ruby-crowned Kinglet 2
Yellow-rumped Warbler 1
Swamp Sparrow 1
Hermit Thrush 2
TOTAL ------------------------ 9
Cheers,
Jethro Runco
