A dull Palm Warbler (western) was between the bike path and the shore slightly
south of milepost 8 (between Belle Haven picnic grounds and the stone bridge
over Hunting Creek) when I passed north about 0735 this morning. I could not
relocate the bird when I returned south about an hour later. It's one day too
early for count week for the DC Christmas Bird count, but perhaps the bird will
remain in the area (which is often good for lingering or lost warblers in
December and January).
And a Merlin was perched up on one of the trees near the north end of the golf
course, the same area a merlin was repeatedly sighted last winter (and probably
near where Kurt Gaskill spotted one this past Sunday afternoon).
