hi all,
A cloudy and cool morning walk in Foxstone Park in Vienna got us close views of
a Magnolia warbler, Am. redstart, indigo bunting, cedar waxwings, yellowthroat,
and red-shouldered hawk.
Best was yet to come, though after lunch at home. Around 1:30 pm, a migrant
wave hit our back yard and artificial stream.
The following were seen at close range, at or near the stream, all seen within
an hour:
yellow-throated vireo—never have seen one in the yard before.
blue-headed vireo
red-eyed vireo
black-throated-green warbler, 2 males, seen side by side
yellow warbler (f)
prarie warbler (f)—never seen in yard before, close view and 2 field guides
helped ID
cape may warbler (m, f )
nashville warbler
N. parula
yellow-rumps ( 4 ), one bathing
yellowstart
RB grosbeak—2 females, one bathing
The cape may, black-throated greens, yellow-rumps and parula were singing at
times, the others silent. All seemed more interested in foraging than bathing.
Cheers!
