I’m getting an excellent collection of regular visitors to my window feeders
using a combination of high quality black sunflower seed, safflower seed,
chipped sunflower seed, nuts and dried berries. Our regulars include the usual
suspects (chickadees, tufted titmouse, cardinals, white breasted nuthatches,
goldfinches and wrens) plus new to the feeder this fall and winter are the red
bellied woodpecker, pine siskins, house and purple finches, and the
red-breasted nuthatch. They keep me highly entertained while I’m teaching from
home.

A friend and I went looking for the painted bunting in Fairfax, but didn't
find it, so we went back to her condo development off Columbia Pike in
Arlington, Va., where the feeders attract a lot of birds. I saw at least
two red-breasted nuthatches, several downy woodpeckers, chickadees and a
red-bellied woodpecker.
