This morning (Sat, 4/13) I found an alternate plumaged adult EARED GREBE
in the Potomac River off Hains Point. The bird was first found about
7:45 am, and was there when I left at 9:30 am. Rob Hilton, Lisa Shannon
& Dave Czaplak were there when I left, so they may have updated
information.
The bird was moving up and down the river (often spooked by boats),
loosely associated with 30 HORNED GREBES, and c.75 BUFFLEHEADS, but was
generally staying in the area off the tip of the point. Also in the
area were:
Common Loon - 1
Greater Scaup - 3
Lesser Scaup - 5
Red-breasted Merganer - 3
Ruddy Duck - 1
American Coot - c.25
Bonaparte's Gull - c.30
Caspian Tern - c.5
Forster's Tern - at least 2, maybe 3 (one adult and another young bird,
mostly in 1st winter)
And one of the Peregrines was on the RR bridge near the 14th St. bridge.
