On this lovely Easter and Passover morning, 15 birders walked the Dyke Marsh
trail and enjoyed First of Season sightings (first at least for this walk):
three Yellow Warblers heard well and taking some effort to locate, a male
Orchard Oriole singing from a tree top near the boardwalk, and an Eastern
Kingbird posing for views.
There were also lots of Blue-gray Gnatcatchers and a Brown Thrasher popped
up in the bushes near the marina restroom. We encountered two Horned Grebes
in breeding plumage, two adult Bald Eagles interacting raucously in the tree
across the water from the last viewing platform, and counted 10 Osprey,
including at least three occupied nests. We saw 43 species in all, plus one
woodpecker that zipped by too fast to distinguish Downy from Hairy.
The Sunday morning Dyke Marsh bird walk is sponsored by the Friends of Dyke
Marsh and is held every Sunday morning at 8:00 AM, free and open to all.
