A few of us were able to visit the Dulles Greenway Wetlands Mitigation Project
(with permission) to survey the birds there this morning. Afterwards I joined
a wildflower walk at the Banshee Reeks Nature Preserve &, of course, birded
during the walk. Both are in central Loudoun County about 6 miles south of
Leesburg. Incidentally, Banshee Reeks is open to the general public tomorrow
from 8 am to 4 pm.
The highlights at the Dulles Greenway Wetlands Mitigation Project (DGWMP) were
at least two VIRGINIA RAILS and one SORA, several species of ducks, the nesting
BALD EAGLE, NORTHERN HARRIER, GREATER YELLOWLEGS, SNIPE, and at least a dozen
SWAMP SPARROWS. The latter were all over the wetlands. The nicest bird at
Banshee was a rather vocal RAVEN.
