Good morning VAbirders,
Our first-of-the-season Cowbirds arrived this morning, a flock of
26. That's a big number for us. There was only one female in the
bunch. Grackles and Starlings joined the Cowbirds, adding another 20 or so
blackbirds to the fray. The male Grackles looked even bigger than usual
against the snow.
Hundreds of Robins flew over in a steady stream. Here and there, several
dropped down to root through a few exposed patches of leaf-covered spots in
our garden.
A Yellow-bellied Sapsucker butted into the constant White-breasted Nuthatch
discussion and another Ring-billed gull headed north.

PS: A big sigh here for the Golden Eagle in Val Kitchens' great report!
