Hello all
On June 2nd I did my BBS route Churchville 88004 . It started off with a temp
.of 53 degrees & cloudy & it ended with a temp .of 60 degrees & light rain . At
times during the count the rain became a little heavier & some of the bird
numbers were down from last years count . Any way I ended up with 69 species of
birds which is average & a total of 2313 individual birds from the BBS only.
Big misses were Black -- billed Cuckoo , Fish Crow & Vesper Sparrow .After the
count I went home rested a few minutes --picked up Pat & we took off to look
for more birds to add to new summer peak counts . We went East as far as
Quillen's Pond where we chalked up a good number of Swallow's, Blackbirds,
Robin's , Sparrow's etc. After that we went South thru Stuarts Draft areas onto
Middlebrook & back to Smith's in the Swoope area for any Shorebirds that the
rains would drop in . After that we went North to McCune's & the County line .
While we were up in the northern end we went to Leonard's Pond in hopes of
finding some more Shorebirds . Instead we found only one Spotted Sandpiper & a
couple of Killdeer & a dead cow in the pond . We ended our day by going on
Bells Lane for some more grassland birds . With the BBS & the extra birding
around Augusta County we ended up with 33 new records . The listings will have
the BBS counts first & the second counts will be the extras thru out the County
