All,
4/23 and 24 in and around Cape Charles: a single red necked grebe in basic
plumage is still hanging out in the mouth of Kings Creek at the north end of
Fig Street, where several Am. oystercatchers, lesser yellowlegs, a clapper
rail, gb heron, great egrets and laughing, herring and gbb gulls could also
be seen today. Off the town beach along Bay Avenue were more oystercatchers
and gulls, plus numerous forsters terns and a single royal tern, as well as
breeding plumage common loons and long skeins of dc cormorants heading
north. Another red necked grebe is in one of the lakes on the Bay Creek
property along with a half dozen wood ducks and a lingering female ring
necked duck. In Old Plantation Creek yesterday a pair of basic plumage
red-throated loons was seen. Palm, pine, yellow-rumped and yellow throated
warblers are in good numbers in the woods around the south side of town.
White-throated sparrows are still visiting the feeders, along with way too
many grackles and cowbirds.
