I managed to get views of 4 Canvasback ducks this morning in, what is being
called on eBird, "The Sleep Inn Pond" in Colonial Heights (perhaps it's
Prince George). The ponds are fenced off, and difficult to view from most
locations. Regardless, the birds were spotted behind the Yamaha dealership
across from the Lowe's on Puddledock Road.
The Canvasbacks were diving in a group that included Northern Shovelers,
Ring-Necked Ducks, and Canada Geese. Nearby, was a Mute Swan.
Someone should really start a movement to open access to the area. For
example, get Vulcan Stone, or whoever owns the property to build a viewing
platform.
