Robin,
Try this--though it doesn't sound like an alarm call:

...and let us know!

Subject: [va-bird] Call ID
Hi
Does anyone know of where I might be able to locate a recording of a
Long-eared Owl, in particular a contact or alarm call? Anyone have any
suggestions as to what may be making a call I've heard 3 times in the last
week around my house? I live just off Beulah Rd near Manchester Lakes
shopping center in Alexandria, VA. This call is a raspy bark-like sound
(very similar to the Short-eared Owl calls I've heard at Bombay Hook),
repeated 3 times in a series. I've heard it between 10:30 and 11:30 at
night. Sounds vaguely like a Green Heron squawk or Pheasant, only not as
loud, raspy, or as long.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Robin
Alexandria, VA
