I refound the California gull at Neabsco Creek near the entrance to
Leesylvania SP in Woodbridge, VA this afternoon around 3:45pm. The bird
was last reported on December 27. The tide was low and there were
thousands of gulls on the flats. Fortunately, the California was right
out front, in great light. I got killer looks, right down to the dark
eye. The bird is in adult plumage. Also seen were 2 lesser
black-backs, several laughing gulls, and many ring-billed, herring, and
greater black-backs. An immature northern harrier was hunting over the
marsh, and in the water were Canada geese, tundra swans, mallards, black
ducks, green-winged teal, and ruddy ducks.
