Greetings,
The Townsend's Warbler reported by Bill Williams provided a good excuse to
do a little birding in a county in which I've rarely gotten a chance to
bird. It was also a good opportunity to see some friends who I don't bump
into in the field very often.
While I didn't have any luck with the warbler, it was still a nice couple
hours of birding. With very little effort, the seven regular woodpeckers
were able to be observed, and I know that a couple other birders also notched
them all. There was a very vocal (but rarely seen) Red-headed Woodpecker
present along the edge of the bluff over the marsh. At least one Hairy was
making the rounds as well. I had a flock of Pine Siskins at the parking
lot. They briefly perched in a bare Tulip Poplar before buzzing off. Not
unexpected, but a Pine Warbler quickened the heart rate when after a lot of
drab grayish birds are poured through and a brighter, yellow one pops up while
looking for a brighter, yellow one.
