A beautiful crisp morning at the mostly frozen
Burke Lake from 8:45-10:00. 5 bald eagles (4
adults and 1 immature) soared overhead, perched
on the trees along the shore and walked about on
the ice. The best viewpoint of the open water in
the AM was from the point of land along the shore
a little bit east of the marina.
The following waterfowl could be seen well with a
scope in the small bits of open water near "the
island".
7 pied-billed grebe
3 coot
about 560 Canada goose
about 60 ring-necked duck
3 male, 1 female redhead
4 male, 1 female lesser scaup
6 ruddy duck
5 female common merganser
8 male, 6 female hooded merganser, wonderful
diplays by the males parading about with their
crests raised prominently
about 80 mallard
19 black duck
about 25 ring-billed gull
The ice is nice!
