Greetings,
Around noon today I observed the usual Brewer's gang at the dairy farm along
Fleetwood Drive, south of Aden Rd. I saw a total of 15, including four
females. They were easily seen, foraging in the pasture along with Rock Doves
and Starlings. At one point the Brewer's flew to a bare tree along the fence
line and rested for 20 minutes. There were no cows in the pasture while I was
there. Three Black Vultures were dining on something tasty in the pasture.
Before I arrived at the dairy farm, I stopped along Brookfield Rd. (Rt. 654,
off Aden Rd.) where it crosses Slate Run. Here I found between 20 and 25
White-crowned Sparrows foraging in the vegetation near the road. A lot of
these birds were singing...it almost seemed like spring! It seems like every
time I'm out in Nokesville, I see a lot more White-crowned Sparrows than any
other sparrows. A Brown Creeper flew in to add diversity to this musical lot.
At Cedar Run Wetlands, along Fleetwood Drive south of the dairy farm, I saw
one each of E. Phoebe, Am. Pipit, and Am. Tree Sparrow plus E. Meadowlark
(31).
