Birders,
Ralph Wall and I hoped the front had brought a few warblers and other
goodies, so we set out to
Riverbend Park and birded both the meadow and the boat launch area. Both
areas were dead
quiet and frustrating. A quick stop at Ralph's house and his renowned water
feature were
similarly disappointing (I'd never been there and thought the whole thing
was absolutely marvelous!
But, no birds.
Off we went to Riverside Park, off Rte. 7 in Loudoun County (turn right at
first light after /rte 28 comes in
and wing it) We thought the COOPER'S HAWK would be the BOD (bird of the
day), until shortly
after we spotted a large flycatcher on a high snag. An OLIVE-SIDED
FLYCATCHER !! My first
in several years. We were both thrilled and headed back to the marvelous
water feature. The
RED-BREASTED NUTHATCH was still visiting, a cute little female. Then we (he
- getting proprietary,
I am) had visits from an AMERCIAN REDSTART and two MAGNOLIA WARBLERS. We
certainly
ended up with a bang!
