Fourteen people participated in the Northern Virginia Bird Club field trip to
the Banshee Reeks Nature Preserve this morning and saw 41 species at Banshee &
an additional 8 species at the Dulles Greenway Wetlands Mitigation Project.
The highlights of the day were the flyover flock of about 50 Tundra Swans and 5
Blue-winged Teal at the Wetlands, a Bald Eagle that flew over both the Wetlands
& the Preserve, the first Phoebes and the first Tree Swallows of the season
(for most of us).
Don't forget that Banshee is open to the general public tomorrow, Sunday, March
20 from 8 am to 4 pm, again on Arbor Day, April 9 (10 am to 3 pm) & again on
April 16 & 17 from 8 am to 4 pm. Several new trails have been opened in the
past few months providing access to a lot more of the preserve.
