Ten people participated in the Loudoun Wildlife Conservancy's bird walk at the
Blue Ridge Center for Environmental Stewardship in northwestern Loudoun County
this morning. John Drummond led the walk. The birds were not very active with
temperatures below freezing (in the low 20's at first) and rather overcast
until about 10:00 a.m.
The highlights of the 38 bird species seen included an Eastern Phoebe, a couple
of Winter Wrens, and an American Tree Sparrow. Also found was a raccoon tucked
into a rather large hole that briefly woke when we put the scope on him but
quickly returned to his sleep. We walked the fields around the Visitor Center
and part of the Farmstead Loop.
