I didn't get time to hit up Monticello Park this morning, but this
morning's birding by ear from home (adjacent to Loftridge Park, zip
22303) seemed to be almost as rewarding. I woke up this morning (and
yesterday moring) to "beeee buzzzzzzzz". Only finally this morning
did I put two and two together that it was a BLUE-WINGED WARBLER
buzzing (knew it wasn't a black-throated blue, but couldn't remember
until I finally looked it up). I never did see it, and by ~7:30am is
was totally silent or had moved off. I hoping the continue to visit
so that I can catch a glimpse - maybe this weekend.
OVENBIRDs were "teach-er-ing" in the woods, a CHIPPING SPARROW and
some TOWHEEs visited my neighbors seed feeder, RUBY CROWNED KINGLETs
fluttered in the tree tops, and singing HOUSE WRENs were around. I
also watched a ROBIN collecting nest material next door.
Not bad for not meaning to do any specific birding!
