VA BIRDers,
I have no problem with Val's message as well as Sue Heath's recent message
regarding parking at the Dulles Airport parking lot. Both messages were
attempting to convey a sense of ethics to the birding community. I do not
believe that connecting these messages to past (perceived) mistakes by the
writers' is relevant since it does not negate the content in the ethics. I
also believe that personal opinions should be directed in private messages
and not to this listserve.

VA Birders,
In a recent posting on the Short-eared Owls at Rectortown in Fauquier
Co., the writer said he "wandered back to the pavilion to look at it." From
my
visit to this site, I believe the pavilion to which the writer refers is on
private property in the field behind the driveway entrance where you can
pull
off the road to look for the owls.
Principle #2 of the ABA (American Birding Association) Code of Birding
Ethics states "Respect the law and the rights of others. . . . Do not enter
private property without the owner's explicit permission."
Unfortunately, birders are sometimes viewed with suspicion (think CBBT),
and incidents like this can lead to birders not being welcome in a
neighborhood where an unusual bird has shown up. So please, folks, when we
give
directions to good birds on the Listserv, be considerate of private property
owners as
well as other birders when you go to look for these birds. Thanks.
