I wanted to recount an event that happened last Monday (August 16) as
we were heading out of Monterey for a vacation. We were driving on Rt.
250 just about 1/2 mile west of the "outskirts" of the town. I noticed
a mature Bald eagle on the ground, feeding on a sheep carcass. We
watched the bird for a while, but the approach of a tractor drove him up
into a nearby tree. The bird called out several times, and it appeared
to be communicating to another bird. Just as it flew, another adult took
off from the ground right under the tree, then an immature flew off with
them. Quite an impressive sighting!
