Hello All,
While the new set of rules to bird the CBBT makes it far more difficult to
bird than in the past, maybe we can make something out of it.
As in the past on many of the more common bird walk, they are advertised on
the va-bird list, quite possibly we can do the same here for birding the CBBT.
There will be a bird walk scheduled at such a time, we all meet and park in the
parking lot (I believe it is free parking at the Norfolk side). Move to one
car, pay the driver the $12.00 + $5.00 dollars and we bird. The more we pool
the less it will cost to bird and the longer we can stay. I have normally
birded the CBBT by myself because of the long drive to get there, but I am
willing to change my schedule, meet new folks and bird with them. I know that
birders are out there in all kinds of weather, if you plan on going post on
va-bird.
Also get to know the law enforcement that will be watching us, get them
involved in birdwatching. Who can resist the Harlequin Ducks or the Eiders that
show up. How about those Purple Sandpipers and Harbor Seals? This may be
useful in the future to let them know the type of people we are and in the
future when quite possibly they ease up on the restriction, we would have won
the confidence of the law enforcement. With regards to the last statement, we
can continue to let our elected officials know our feelings. I have responded
to my elected officials and have already announced my displeasure. When the
time comes, vote, vote, vote.
I know this does not address the needs of all people, but we can make a
difference if we work at this with a goal in mind, get back the freedom to bird
the CBBT.
Make the best of today.
Best regards,
Jack Carroll
