Another sighting of interest! This could be a pretty easy flight for "our"
Rufous, but of course we can't be certain unless someone can determine if
this bird is banded (something I've never been able to do, even looking at
a hum I know has been banded). If this Rufous will even use pansies, that
would really expand the number of areas she could be visiting. The Ripley
garden Rufous seems to be spending extended periods away from the garden;
it would be great if we could figure out some of her other regular routes,
so more birders might get a chance to see her. Happy Holidays!

13th Street

Hi Laura, I saw your message on the va-bird board & the
article in the Post today and thought you might like to
know that I spotted another Rufous hummingbird last
Friday (12/19/03) on 13th street up from Pennsylvania
Ave. NW between the main Commerce Building and the US
Customs Service building. He was flitting along from
one concrete pot of pansies to the other on one side of
the street and then up the other side. I'm still
figuring out how to post onto that board & came across
your email address in a posting, so thought you might
be the person to tell about it.
