I checked out my some of my haunts in Annandale for next week's DC CBC.
Holmes Run runs through the Sleepy Hollow neighborhood and hosted a Belted
Kingfisher today. They seem to be growing in number along small streams in
the winter. A Winter Wren was singing in Roundtree Park. Several towhees
and lots of White-throated and Song Sparrows were about. A Field Sparrow was
at the little manmade pond at Mason District Park. Barred Owls are around,
but have not always been reliable on count day. In contrast to last winter,
no winter finches are present, at least none I could find.
