All,
At 8:10 this evening two American Bitterns rose up out of the marsh at
Huntley Meadows and put on a spectacular show circling for 5-10 minutes
until they were joined by a third bittern which also came up out of the
marsh. They all then flew off together towards the northeast presumably
to roost somewhere.
There were also a good number of yellowlegs, Spotted Sandpipers, and
Solitary Sandpipers plus a few Killdeer. A Sora delighted many by
walking around out in the open for extended periods. There was a female
Hooded Merganser with 9-10 young in tow. I saw Barn, Rough-winged, and
Tree Swallows but no Chimney Swifts.
