I don't think one sold be so quick to judge alternative products. After
all, Native Americans used animal fat as an insect repellent for thousands of
years before DEET was invented. I'm not suggesting we go out and slaughter a
bear and spread the fat on our bodies. I'm only suggesting that there might be
effective natural alternatives to man-made chemicals. As I said before, I
personally have used Off Botanicals and found it effective. Granted, I wasn't
where there are more mosquitoes per square inch than there are people in the
US, but I was outdoors in/near the woods and a lake for several hours.

This is known as junk science. What a bunch of rot. You need double blind
testing by a reputable agency which Good Housekeeping is NOT. Try looking
at Consumers Reports testing results which show that the only reliable agent
to repel the biting vectors of West Nile to be DEET. The only question is
how long you need the protection and that time is prescriptive for the
concentration of DEET needed.
