Who's on first?
The banded Selasphorus seen through yesterday here hasn't been around today,
but the smaller, paler bird, also Selasphorus, has been present all day
today. Mary Gustafson and Bruce Peterjohn came down to band the bird -- what
a wonderful and remarkable operation! Within 5 minutes, the bird was
captured, and the processing (measurements, photographs, banding, weighing)
took just a few minutes. The bird, a young female Rufous (R5=3.6), now
sports a band and is feeding and catching insects in the side yard. She was
docile during the banding procedure and hasn't changed behavior as a result.
