Greetings,
Nothing too noteworthy today in southern Fauquier, but a couple mentionables.
Sue Heath and I came across a couple things getting hard to find these days.
Six or eight American Pipits, three Rusty Blackbirds, and several Savannah
Sparrows in an area that I certain they'll breed in. Blue-winged Teal are
hard for me to find in late spring and summer, so two drakes today was nice.
Later after splitting with Sue, I spent about forty minutes at Germantown
Lake and had a stunning alternate plumaged Common Loon, and a small hawk
flight overhead. The hawks included an Osprey, two Harriers, a
Sharp-shinned, a Broad-winged, and later two Gulls, Ringers.
I've been unable to nail down Upland Sandpipers in Remington yet this year.
Blue Grosbeak was singing in that general area.
Yesterday there was a Black-billed Cuckoo at Phelps WMA, and another Common
Loon elsewhere in the county.
Cheers,
Todd
