Snowy Owl - Saw it at the airport yesterday in anticipation of finding it
today for my wife who just got back in town. -

Sandhill Cranes - They're back at Algonkian Park - Sanctuary Trail...I
believe Dave C. spotted them flying that way recently, so I checked it out
this morning. If you go, the appropriate way to get to the park is down the
Potomac Heritage Trail from the Potomack Sportsplex. I'd expect they will
stay like last year into March. They spook easily, so often leave early in
the day - typically seen flying north and west - quite possibly towards the
Lucketts area where a pair (probably the same) were seen last year.
There were duck hunters actively hunting along the Potomac near Sanctuary
Trail and in the middle of the water with decoys, duck calls and of course
the occasional gun blast.
Oh, and watch out for the ice - hit two patches of serious ice in
neighborhoods this morning.
