Birders,
Two birders joined me on Saturday for the bimonthly bird walk at Mason Neck
State Park. Highlights included the first (!) INDIGO BUNTING I've seen on
the park this season, a BALTIMORE ORIOLE, and some N. ROUGH-WINGED SWALLOWS
posing for extended observation. A personal favorite was the wood duck
which took off from dense cover just as I said, "This is often a good place
to see wood ducks...!" Full list is below.
Summertime bird walks are held at the park on the first and third Saturdays
of each month. The next one is Saturday, August 5. We meet at the Visitor
Center at for a 9am start, hike the Bay View Trail, and conclude in the
picnic area around 11am. No advance reservations are necessary. Any
questions may be directed to me at the address below.
