Sat. June 18: Join Us in Washington or On-Line: Poor People's Campaign
Rally!!
Join us on Saturday June 18 for the Mass Poor People and Low Wage Workers’
Assembly and Moral March on Washington and to the Polls! This will be a
generationally transformative gathering of poor and low wealth people, state
leaders, faith communities, moral allies, unions and partnering
organizations. Together we are building power for an agenda that lifts all
people by challenging the interlocking injustices of systemic racism,
poverty, ecological devastation, militarism and the war economy, and the
false moral narrative of religious nationalism.
Brooklyn For Peace, with United for Peace and Justice, is proud to be an
organizing partner with The Poor People’s Campaign: A National Call for Moral
Revival!
BFP will be gathering just outside of Freedom Plaza at E Street and 13th
Street at 9 am to march with the Code Pink Anti-War Contingent along
Pennsylvania Ave to the rally site at Pennsylvania & 3rd. See map. Gathering
spot is close to Metro Center station at G & 12th. Look for our BFP banner,
or our friends with Move the Money/NYC banner and white t-shirts. Click here
for important information. (Frequently Asked Questions.)
If you can't make it to Washington, please join us in spirit and on-line.
Event will be live-streamed on the Poor People's Campaign website and
Facebook page. Invite others to watch with you, and spread the word!
Support Yemen War Powers Resolution:
Call Congress Now!
Since its start over seven years ago, the war in Yemen has turned into a
humanitarian disaster. U.S. military support for the Saudi-led coalition
fighting the Houthis in Yemen has only perpetuated the crisis, with over 17
million people currently on the brink of famine. Despite President Biden’s
early signals of de-escalation, the US has continued support for the war via
maintenance of warplanes and intelligence-sharing for airstrikes, as well as
by enforcing a devastating air and sea blockade.
A War Powers Resolution to stop U.S. support for the war in Yemen (# HJ Res
87) has just been introduced by Reps. Jayapal and DeFazio. Brooklyn Reps
Clarke, Jeffries, and Velazquez have added their names to those of NY Reps.
Bowman, Espaillat, Jones, Maloney, Nadler, and Tonko as co-sponsors! If any
of those is your rep, please call to thank them!

Wed. June 22, 6:00 pm: Emergency Rapid Action Call for Yemen
Register here to participate in a 30-minute rapid action via ZOOM to pressure
NY lawmakers to end US involvement in the war on Yemen. With the recent
introduction into of a Yemen War Powers resolution in Congress, now is the
time to take action to end US support for the war. If your rep is already a
co-sponsor, your call is still important to thank them and urge them to make
a public statement and put their weight behind this bill.
International Day of Action!
Vigil for Peace in Ukraine:
June 25, 11:00 am--12:00 noon
Join us on Saturday June 25, 11:00 am to 12:00 pm, to stand for peace in
Ukraine!
We'll be holding a banner and signs, urging a cease-fire and serious
negotiations to end this war, which is killing thousands of people,
displacing millions, and causing hunger, inflation, and increased militarism
around the world.
Brooklyn for Peace strongly condemns Russia's invasion of Ukraine (see our
statement.) However, we also believe the priority of the U.S. at this time
should be the encouragement of a cease-fire and energetic diplomacy, designed
to create long-term peace.
The U.S. has just announced another $1 billion in military aid to Ukraine.
But where is the support for a cease-fire and for diplomatic effort to end
the war?
