I certainly believe that DJT should have been convicted, even though
impeachment is a civil matter, not a criminal matter. [That is why they would
have had to debar him from holding any office if he had been found guilty.]
His acquittal certainly creates a very high bar for impeachment. I do,
however, understand McConnell's rationalization for voting to acquit. And it
is a rationalization. While in office, he stirred up a violent attack on the
Congress, the processes and the Constitution of the United States. People
died. Many of the people he attacked voted him not guilty.
Fortunately, he is under investigation and will almost certainly be indicted by
several jurisdictions, including Washington, DC, New York, Georgia, the US
Justice Department, just to name a few. It looks as though he will be spending
a lot of what he collected to attack the results of the election on lawyers for
trials and appeals.
When [not if] he is found guilty of any of the numerous felonies he is under
investigation for, I wonder whether he will plead infirmity to avoid going to
the Graybar Hotel. I believe conviction also disqualifies him from any
consideration for public office--at least in most states.

It is shameful that this many senators stood with a president who incited a
violent insurrection. It is shameful that he will avoid accountability in this
form. But he has not avoided all forms of accountability.
