Let's be sure we are convinced the "cure"
isn't worse than the problem it supposed to cure.

#yiv3830563886 P {margin-top:0;margin-bottom:0;}There is no question that
issues like customer service would need to be addressed. Scheduling around a
five day office week with people working four days would work. It would still
improve tailpipe emissions even though keeping buildings "hot" would not
improve emissions from that source. In the 1970's people questioned why the
lights in the World Trade Center were on 24 hours per day. There were two
complementary answers: The load on the power grid when all of the fluorescent
lights were fired up in a concentrated period caused localized problems and the
billing structure was based on peak demand rather actual electrical
consumption. In other words, it was financially cheaper to use more
electricity. The way to reduce building emissions would be a phased startup
and changes in billing agreements.I believe this discussion is important
because we are finally beginning to catch up with the workplace improvements
that both automation and computers have been promising us for decades. This is
one situation where the benefits can actually "trickle down" to the workers.

As well as being more productive? Yes, but that's a "Socialist" solution. Eric
